Better Energy Communities 2017 Update

Dunleer Community Development Board has just announced that it has been successful in its application to the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) to retrofit homes, business and community premises in Mid Louth.  Areas in Ardee, Dunleer, Drogheda, Clogherhead, Collon, Tinure and Togher are all included in the application. Elizabeth Kearney, the Lead for the programme, outlined that the Better Energy Community (BEC) commenced in 2016 with a focus on Dunleer, but this year it was decided to extend it to Mid Louth. ‘We are delighted that our application has been approved, which means further benefits to the people of Mid Louth. The programme will include upgrades to existing heating systems, increased insulation, the replacement of inefficient boilers as well as other measures identified.

This year, the programme is grant aided by the Sustainable Authority of Ireland and Electric Ireland and will be managed from the Market House in Dunleer.

Eugene Conlon, a member of the Sustainable Energy Community Steering Group, outlined that the success of this application for the 2017 BEC programme, plus the recent Launch of the Energy Ambassadors Education programme for householders and communities, recognizes the commitment and expertise in Mid Louth to building Sustainable Energy Communities.
